Turkey is huge by European standards, – about 50% larger than France, if it joins the EU in the next ten years, it will become the largest member state – so when it application began for membership, it witnessed an influx of foreign direct investment, particularly from investors and developers from Dubai, which will help to further its already rapid paced infrastructure development.

Today Istanbul is home to an official population of around 12.5 million with unofficial estimates up to 16 million and is the main economic provider for the Turkish economy.
